Möbius takes its name from the Möbius strip, a concept from the mathematical fields of topology and geometry. Delstanche and Polgár discovered that the form of the loudspeaker's cabinet plays a crucial role in controlling and shaping the ultimate acoustical waveform. The result is a loudspeaker system that achieves unparalleled sound quality.
The Möbius loudspeaker features a unique enclosure shaped like a Möbius strip, which houses the drivers. This innovative design, combined with a specially constructed reflector, allows for precise control and distribution of acoustical energy. The holographic pattern created by the loudspeaker system ensures a true immersive audio experience within the system's power bandwidth.
One of the key strengths of Möbius lies in its realization technology. Delstanche and Polgár employ Vacuum Casting, a technique that combines the quality and precision of injection molding with the design freedom of 3D printing. This process involves creating a master model using Laser Sintering, followed by the production of a silicone mold. Vacuum Casting allows for fast production of high-quality prototypes or end-use products.
The standard model of Möbius measures 70 x 110 x 45 cm and weighs 15 kg (including legs). With a power output of 23 watts and a frequency response range of 33.1 - 25,000 Hz, Möbius delivers exceptional audio performance. The loudspeaker is equipped with a 160-watt class D amplifier for bass, and two 80-watt class D amplifiers for midrange and treble. It also features WLAN, Apple AirPlay, DLNA wireless streaming, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
Möbius is designed to seamlessly integrate with various audio sources, including computers, mobile phones, personal players, video systems, docking stations, network players, CD players, streaming clients, TVs, and Hi-Fi audio systems. Its versatility and compatibility make it a perfect choice for any music enthusiast.
The Möbius project began in early 2016, with technology tests and measurements completed by the end of the year. Limited production is set to commence in June. Delstanche and Polgár's research focused on achieving a loudspeaker system that controls and shapes acoustical waveforms, resulting in a true holographic pattern. Their dedication to creating the best active speakers without compromise is evident in Möbius.
Möbius has garnered recognition in the design world, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Möbius stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
With Möbius, Delstanche and Polgár have not only created a loudspeaker that delivers exceptional sound quality, but also a design that showcases the beauty and power of mathematics in the world of audio. Möbius is a testament to the endless possibilities that arise when art, architecture, design, innovation, and technology converge.
